This was a particularly fun -- albeit also frustrating -- portrait to create. Accounting firm BDO asked me to make portraits showing the personal sides of several employees. This employee is an accomplished surfer. My assistant and I flew into Miami, Florida, met up with employee and a BDO corporate communications manager, and headed for the beach. Only Mother Nature wasn't cooperating. Following the guidance of a weather tracker app, we drove up and down the coast looking for a dry beach. It took a few hours, but we finally found one. We all jumped out, grabbed the surfboard and photography equipment and fired away. The weather could go either way: More rain or sudden sun. We lucked out not only with brief sun, but also a rainbow so brilliant and distinct it looks like PhotoShop. It's real. I think we fired off a few dozen frames before the rainbow disappeared and the rain began pouring again.
